Pennine Ways was proud to sponsor a very worthy local event in Alston recently: the Fairhill Bike Ride. This event now takes place every year with the dual aim of getting people out on their bikes, and of raising much-needed money for the Alston Recreation Ground. This space is owned by a charity, The Fairhill Trust, on behalf of residents and visitors to Alston, who are free to enjoy it, but it receives no funding from the council.

It is a popular space for people to relax, walk their dogs and play with their children.

The Trustees did a great job organising this year’s event, which was attended by more people than ever. Afterwards everyone who had entered the event and raised funds was welcome to enjoy a well-earned burger and hot dog.

The Pennine Ways team was joined by our very own Charlotte Fenton, who is our Show and Events Organiser. Charlotte cycled the full route and completed the event in a commendable two hours.

This event will take place again next year on the third Sunday in July, 2017, so make a note in your diary – it’s a great day out.
